Clips upset Gophers 3-2 but melt against Heat
The Clips have jumped out to a surprising 2-1 lead on the Bushwood Gophers, following convincing 10-3 and 14-3 wins in games two and three. Bushwood took the opener 7-4. Games 2 and 3 were a comedy of X-errors for Bushwood, with Applegate taking advantage of friendly split cards to rack up many late-inning runs. We played by NetPlay, with Dave hosting via dialup; games four and five are slated for Wednesday night.
Update: Applegate's series in Tropical is also underway, with two Netplay games concluded Tuesday night. Tropical won the first game 2-1, with Jason Schmidt and the bullpen holding the Clips to two hits; Applegate rebounded to win the second game 5-4, thanks to a three-run homer from Frank Thomas and Francisco Rodriguez's 22nd scoreless inning of relief work.
Update II: Applegate takes the rubber game of the Gopher series 6-3 thanks to Jose Hernandez's pinch-hit three-run homer in the seventh off Nate Robertson, who had entered the game to face David Ortiz. Bushwood had won Game 4 9-4.
Update III: Tropical polished off the Clips with three straight wins, 5-4, 6-2 and 13-8, to take the series 4-1.

The Gophers will pull out all the stops to win Games 4 and 5 tonight vs. the Clips...We want to sustain the momentum from our 13-7 May and try to erase the memory of those April-ending blowout losses to the Lumberjacks.
Pitching matchups ought to favor the Gophers: Game 4 is Matt Clement vs. Ted Lilly and Game 5 is Brad Radke vs. Brett Tomko.
Just saw the Tigers beat the Rangers 6-5 in Arlington. Something happened in this game that could never happen in Strat: Detroit runners Omar Infante (on second) and Nook Logan (on first) both scored on a wild pitch and subsequent Little League follies by over-the-hill Rangers backup catcher Sandy Alomar Jr.
Go-Go-Gophers!
